Great Danes Training is Critical- Because the Great Dane is so large it is important to set the ground rules at a very young age. If the Great Dane is taught proper manners to be a successful member of the family you can have a long happy relationship with your Dane. Major problems can occur if the time for training is neglected. It is one thing to have a little puppy jump up on you and an entirely different issue when a 130lb adult giant dog jump on you or your child. Great Danes are good and Gentle and eager to please, however they never do really understand they are very big. They would be lap dogs if only they could. You must train your Dane! Check out a class you can take about how to train your dog. There are also many classes you and your pooch can attend. The Must Training Topics for Great Dane Dogs- Polite Leash Walking is an absolute must; if a dog the size of a Great Dane decides to pull you can be pulled flat on your face. Sit, Stay and Down are basic commands that must be taught and obeyed. Fetch, Roll Over, and Shake can add fun to the training and the Dane will have fun too. It is important to remember Danes need rest periods frequently. Also they are not normally very fond of water and are not very good swimmers so be careful. |

Great Dane Pet Insurance- It is extremely important to get all of the first shots for the Great Dane puppy. By 16 weeks old the puppy should have all of the Parvo vaccinations, worms, rabies, as well as kennel cough prevention vaccination. Try to keep your puppy Great Dane out of public parks or areas with other dogs until all 3 of the Parvo vaccinations have been administered. The Great Dane can be more predisposed to hip dysplasia and some types of cancers. It is a good idea to buy and maintain pet insurance to help stem veterinary costs for regular care and issues later in the Great Dane's life. |
